During World War II, a production mistake at the U.S. Mint created a small number of pennies that were never supposed to exist. These 1943 Bronze Lincoln Cents — born from leftover copper-alloy blanks accidentally mixed into a steel-coin run — have since sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars. One widely reported sale reached around $336,000.
